Several Ways Have Surfaced to Help GLNMM Stay Afloat Print

Whether you are a resident in beautiful Muskegon, Michigan or live elsewhere, you can support The Great Lakes Naval Memorial and Museum in many different ways.

GLNMM is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, and USS SILVERSIDES is designated as a National Historic Landmark, so all donations are tax deductible.

GLNMM has several great membership programs for all supporters. These programs were created for those of the world community who wish to contribute funds to the restoration, protection, and preservation of the historical vessels, USS SILVERSIDES and USCGC McLANE, and other naval artifacts which are housed at the Robert G. Morin, Sr. Facility.

As well as your membership benefitting the museum financially, it provides a way for you to keep abreast of all activities, exciting events, and restoration progress involving USS SILVERSIDES, USCGC McLANE, and the Robert G. Morin, Sr. Facility museum.

To become a supporter of the Museum and assist in the efforts to commemorate the history of naval vessels,  enroll now as our newest member!

Donations to the GLNMM BUilding Project will be recognized in the following manner:

Save the SILVERSIDES - Dry docking for maintenance and repairs is a regular and integral part of preserving any vessel's life. It is critical in helping to maintain and preserve the submarine for future generations. Typically, submarines are dry docked every five years while commissioned. If they are permanently moored in fresh water (like SILVERSIDES), it should be done every 25 years. SILVERSIDES has not bee in dry dock for nearly 55 years. The estimated cost for this undertaking is $500,000. All donations will be deposited into an escrow account to aide in dry docking.

  • $50 - color poster of USS SILVERSIDES
  • $100 - 48 page booklet of USS SILVERSIDES
  • $500 - poster and booklet
  • $1000 - poster, booklet, piece of original teak from the deck of USS SILVERSIDES and a name plaque to be placed in the museum.

Stars and Stripes Forever - Honor a loved one by flying a flag over USS SILVERSIDES or USCGC McLANE. Flags can be flown for special days such as birthdays, memorials, or other special events like graduation, enlistments, reunions, etc. We'll fly the flag on the date of your choice, and after it's lowered at dusk, we'll send it to you with a commemorative certificate with your honoree's name, the date the flag was flown, the name of the vessel you chose to fly in over, and the date of the reason or occasion you chose to fly a flag.

The charge for this is $50, which includes a 3x5ft 50 star flag (sewn stripes and embroidered stars), a certificate, and shipping within the continental United States.

Buy a Brick - Part of both the Building Project and Save the SILVERSIDES, these bricks will be laid in the new outdoor patio and garden walks. They are a great way to commemorate your donation or to honor a loved one, and will be visible for generations and visitors to see as they walk the grounds of the beautiful new building. There's still time to have your message preserved for all to see. Call now request a Buy a Brick form.

Donor Spotlight
Web Designer David Fernandez - Monday, August 11, 2008

Web Designer David Feranandez donated his valuable time and efforts to make the new GLNMM website a reality. After months of collaboration with GLNMM staff, David's expertise has come to fruition with this interactive website that provides up-to-date information on tour and overnight pricing and availability, travel and weather, exhibits and upcoming events, educational resources, and much more. It is because of donors like David that GLNMM is able to keep up with the times and strive to provide an experience worthy of USS SILVERSIDES, USGCG McLANE, and The Robert G. Morin, Sr. Facility to our visitors.

Janet R. Verner - Wednesday, June 11, 2008

Mrs. Janet Vernier has provided GLNMM with a 1/48th inch scale model of USS MIAMI in honor of her late husband,  John R. Vernier, DDS. The 13ft long ship model is a US Navy Light Cruiser, built by  Dr. Vernier, took 10 years to complete, from 1987 to 1997. It is a beautiful addition to GLNMM's collection, and GLNMM is honored to be able to display it.
